Breaks my Heart: This week's whack award goes to #SteelersNation

Hey Y'all It's your favorite SportsGal89 Innnnnn the Buildin' coming to you with hopefully another brilliant piece about the wonderful world of sports. I definitely know that it has been a while since I have graced y'all with my presence. And I know that it has not been fair- let's just say work and life caught up in a BIG way and I am slowly making my way back to some part of normal. And let's also say that while there have been some great pieces to pick up for a comment here or there, there hasn't been something remarkable for comment except for now.

It honestly breaks my heart to put my team on blast, and really I don't mean THE TEAM, but my team, the team of fans that I find myself so comfortable with. That I am often proud to be a part of because at times we can be THE BEST DAMN fans in all sports- until now. So this week The Steelers signed Michael Vick to basically be the back up QB . So following his signing some inflamed Steelers nation fans, decided to create a petition against the signing, basically making them and the remaining members of Steelers nation, who have some sense, look like we don't. Here's what Steelers Nation and particularly to those who feel like Vick is the wrong choice. Your argument has NO value! And you are making yourselves look like major ASS-HATS!

Why?
An exceprt from the petition: “Michael Vick is a convicted felon and no-class piece of crap. He is also a terrible QB, which is why he has no team. Let’s united as Steeler fans – as NFL fans – and stop him from playing on our team! Steelers fans united! Sign to keep Vick from ever wearing the coveted Steelers uniform!!”

Grammar aside, because that was legitimately written verbatim - Wait- are you serious?! "Convicted felon- okay.. let's talk about this, unlike many of the pro-athletes in the game, and some in that "coveted Steelers uniform." Michael Vick was convicted of a crime, that he acknowledged he committed. He spent time paying back the "debt" for that crime he committed and then went back to what he was trained to do. Which if you have any faith in the justice system is exactly how it should work. Prison contrasting with popular belief and current practice, was meant to be a way in which individuals who were not acclimating to society, were able to reconnect. So in the case of Vick, didn't the system work as it should?

He who is without sin cast the first stone- lest we forget who wears my beloved favorite number- 7. Are we forgetting what a storied past he has had. And yes he might not have been convicted but  can we just talk about how forgiving Steelers nation was after not one but two cases against him for his disgusting behavior. And yet we welcomed him back, there was no petition, for our franchise QB. But he is worthy to wear our coveted Steelers uniform? Oh wait, is that who we want representing our coveted uniform- it must be. And not to compare the killing of dogs to the disgrace of women, but GET YOUR LIFE. And here is the kicker, the fact that our Steelers Nation fanbase is made up of a huge percentage of women, and we are allowing this petition to even have life, is beyond me. Do you even understand what you are allowing to pass in the shadows?! I for one can NEVER wear my favorite number in my favorite team's colors. I will never have that liberty and yes it's a choice, but it's a choice that I stand by. So when you being up ethics and morality, check yourselves before you wreck yourselves.

"He is a terrible QB?" - let me take a look around the league or our prospects for backup QBs...... ......... Hold on still looking.

Can we talk about this for a second. Michael Vick, who spent 548 days in jail. And then struggled getting back into shape and getting enough of an opportunity to suit up and still even after those days in jail and a somewhat crap year, he is still in enough shape to be considered by other teams to still play the game. Wait.. And can we just talk about Michael Vick, pre- conviction. Injuries aside, which is really telling about the support and protection he had and not just about him as a QB, Vick was a coveted athlete with the Atlanta Falcons. And even when he was playing with the Eagles following his jail time, I mean he got out of jail and went straight to the Eagles and yes he had to "prove" himself, but he spent years with the Eagles and was still a great QB for them. And okay so he spent one season with the JETS and from what we are hearing now is issues were with being Geno's backup and not that HE WAS a backup- so let's talk about that. If you had to be 2nd to Geno, knowing that you were/are THE MICHAEL VICK, wouldn't you be a little annoyed?

But back to this, WHO ELSE would you want to have as your backup then somebody who has played 14 seasons in the game and understands the speed of the game, and also has the stamina to maintain, like Ben? Do we really want to entrust that to a young buck who will be trying to learn and develop and honestly not get an understanding of the speed of the game until they are thrown in there? Save that for third string, I'll take my chances knowing that we have someone in the wings who can lead. We need a Charlie Batch when Charlie isn't there anymore. And that's the reality. You need someone who you know will get the job done, who will step up, show out and do well... And not for nothing Steelers Nation, but I hope his performance in this preseason game showed y'all something and silenced a few of you. In case you need to be reminded:
And yes I know, its only one play, but when we are saying "he's such a terrible QB" this one play stands out.

And additionally, can we just say one thing about our team, the organization we love and more. We are in my opinion one of the best, IF NOT the best at turning guys around, or cutting them loose. Do you not have faith in the organization, and our beloved Rooney's in the decision they made? And shouldn't we be proud of someone who wants to be there?

I for one am excited with the pick. I think it sets us up for a decent backup should anything happen to Big Ben this season. And let's be real, I think the dram is behind Vick and he's just a guy who is looking for his life to continue to change, why not let him be a better man and have a greater legacy to tell with our team and our nation supporting him?

My only beef is that Twitter profile pic- you don't play for the Falcons anymore Vick... That's all she wrote folks....
