And the Lakers gone and done it...

Hey Ya'll its your fav SportsGal here.. Welcome to another great edition brought to you by the lovely, and talented ;) SportsGal89...
So if you hadn't seen the game let me give you a little piece of that action that you missed... this little FB status came out of my good friend Khori Sandifer, DISCLAIMER [he is sooo stupid for this one]
(Drake voice) I know way too many HATERS here right now, That I didn’t know last year, who the WHO THE UFF ARE YAAA'LL? I swear it feels like the last few minutes We been up & down the court, But I just can’t remember it all What are we doin’? What are we doin’...?

*****

If you don't know how the song goes here's the vid by Drake, the song is called Over

Anyways, Khori thanks for today's entertainment. But the game was def not all fun and games.
Check out a FB update yours truly posted in the heat of the moment;
Way to blow it!!! Lakers you better take it or stay your dumb asses in freaking LA!!! how the hell do you blow an 18 point lead and then. 3 pt lead with 15 seconds left.. can't get a damn rebound! are you kidding 3 offensive rebounds in this last play by the Suns THREE! pissed off!!!!!
this lovely emphasis on anger came out of the Lakers blowing an 18 pt lead and allowing the Suns to make 3 attempts off of a missed shot and then giving Richardson of the Suns the window to tie up the game. I've said before and I'll say it again, I am the first person to give love to my team when they deserve it, but you better believe I am the first person to criticize them when they don't. I'll get back to this point later.
However, in the end Ron Artest showed everyone who watched that game that It's not how you play the game but how you finish it!!!

Artest played horrible most if not all of the game. Not making any shots, making bad calls etc. But when we needed it the most Artest managed to step up and show up when it counted the most.. YAY!!!

And the question of the day....

Hey ya'll SportsGal89 In the Building, what up?! Sorry that I have been slacking ya'll your girl is getting it back though..

And the question of the day is... Will the Magic be able to bring some more Magic as they return to Boston for GM 6? Last night the Orlando Magic came back on fire and stopped the Boston Celtics from taking the Eastern Conference... and I missed it!!! AGH! I was so sure that last night was going to go the other way, I am so proud of Superman and the Magic showing the league that they are still in this fight, and it wasn't even about the Magic just playing well, they came back with a vengence! It was beuatiful catching the highlights. I just hope that the Magic can keep the momentum and continue to play hard. I would LOVE to see the Magic take it, not just because of my distaste for the Celtics, but because I really like the Magic, lol.. I think they have the makings to be a great team and it would be nice to see them take one (correction, just not against my Lakers! They can take the Eastern Conference Championship title, but they won't take the whole thing)
Anyways, my honorable mention is in my opinion the game leader Mr. Superman himself and the hurt that he put on Glen Davis that had Davis wobblin all over the floor. I mean for real, I hope Davis is alright but that was hilarious to see. I'm in tears right now and just want to share the clip with you...

LMAO!! Yo! I'm sorry but when someone falls I can't help but laugh.. That was hilarious, it was just his stumblin to get up.. And then when he ran into Joe Crawford you knew something was wrong. Anyways Davis left the game with a concussion we'll see if he'll be well enough to play next game.
Anywho since I didn't get a chance to watch the game I don't want to keep ya'll longer than needed, so here are the closing remarks. Celtics lead the series 3-2 with the series going back to Boston. Hopefully the Magic can push a Game 7 and take the win. If not, I have to give it to them for last night that at least they didn't just give up, the put up a fight (and elbows.. ha ha ha ha!)

I'm out!...

NBA Playoffs

Hey Ya'll SportsGal89 In the Building... so my apologies for slacking this weekend, it was quite an eventful weekend as I mentioned in the last post and not just about sports. I celebrated my friend's bday on Saturday night and let's just say it was a little reminiscent of a Vegas weekend. So with that I am not going to run by any stats or incredible plays etc, since I am hoping by now ya'll are all caught up.
What you do need to know is that the Celtics put the hurt on the Magic, tapping that ass all over the court. Sadly Superman and the boys just weren't that super. Celtics lead the series 3-0, most likely to sweep the Magic. Now you know me, despite what my FB status said I am all for the Magic taking this, but in all honesty bring on the Celtics so we can spank that and take back our 2008 ring. And for the record I know that the Celtics- Mr. 17 NBA Championship titles, lead the league with the most championships but I just want to close the gap. With our 15 rings, this will be a little Sweet 16 for the Lakers.
Now my boys in purple and gold didn't do what they were supposed to do. And if I hadn't been "multi-tasking" and gabbing it up at my own Laker watch party, well then you would have more insight from me. But sadly I was making new friends and checking out the D.C. nightlife while my boys lost Game 3.
So tune in RIGHT NOW, to Gm 4 with the scored tied at 23, at the top of the 2nd quarter and they better pull it out, I'm just saying. Game is on TNT so hit it up and catch me after the game...

It's been a while...

Hey Ya'll it's your girl SportsGal89 In the Building, what up?! So it was quite an eventful weekend, but not only in the sports world... Your fav SportsGal had to face a little adversity this weekend when I was told that I must be a bandwagon fan if I like the Lakers.. HMMMMM- I AM SOOO NOT THE ONE!!!
I realize that I tend to get this repsonse from guys a lot, it's the first thing that they say and then I open my mouth and they realize that I know what the heck I'm talking about. Sadly though, it doesn't mean that it doesn't annoy me and begins to make me think that a girl can't really get much respect in this game. But I'm still gonna keep slugging it out.
And for the record, I don't owe anybody anything, I won't apologize that coincidentaly the teams that I love are champions in their own right. And I'll say it here andI'm not going to say it again, I have been and will forever be a Lakers,a Steelers, an Ohio State Buckeyes and an Oakland A's fan! If you ask me where I got it from, besides the A's I got it from my dad. I refuse to continue to have to defend my love of these teams.. Now can we get on with it already...

Oh and in case you really need to know:

Around the wire...

Hey ya'll SportsGal89 In the Building...
Welcome back to another edition of your fave new blogger... ;) I hope you are enjoying the show.
This edition is going to be a little glimpse of the world around sports this afternoon. Let me know if I miss anything..

Hockey:
Unless you have been living under a rock, or really don't care about this sport- and I don't know how you could like this sport- THE FIGHTING ALONE IS ENTERTAINING.. anyways we are in the middle of the Stanley Cup Playoff season.
In the East you have the Montreal Canadiens (not such a unique name) and the Philadelphia Flyers, vying for their shot at the Finals. Until last night the Flyers had Montreal in a corner holding the series at 2-0. But in a great play, the Canadiens have managed to stay in the fight and get the series 2-1. I don't have anyone in this series, but watching power plays and some crazy fights is fun for me. I have yet to go to a live game but when I do, you'll be sure that my seat will be behind some glass :)
In the West you have the Chicago Blackhawks- YUCKFEST!! against the coveted San Jose Sharks, YAY!!! You can tell my bias can't you.. Lol. If you don't know I lived in the Bay Area for 8 years, SHARK NATION was a quick draw and I have love for the Sharks. Each year we get better and better and fall short, I am hoping that this year we change that. The series right now is Chicago leading 2-0 going into Game 3 which airs tonight at 8:00pm Est on Versus.. Let's hope the Sharks can come back and take a win tonight! GO SHARKS!!!

Football:
Don't come a knocking if the boat is a-rocking.. In Tennesse looks like things ight be a littel tight for the RB, Chris Johnson. With closing stats for the 2009:
2009 STATS
ATT YDS AVG LONG TD
358 2006 5.6 91 14
Johnson is ready to take a bite out of Titans Wallet and holding out until he gets a better paycheck. Is it smart? With 3 years left on his contract will the Titans front office oblige? I get that atheltes need to make that money, but I just think getting money hungry is a little much and distracts from the real reason we are all on that Gridiron drug: Thursday, Sunday and Monday nights... Jamarcus Russell held out from Oakland during his draft year until he got a ridiculous $68 million, with $31.5 million guaranteed contract- oh and the shame right now DUDE SHARES MY SAME B-DAY! To the freaking year!!! And where did that get Oakland- NO FREAKING WHERE. I understand too though that atheltes need to protect their investments (themselves) their bodies are at risk everyday of that they play. And it has been that way for at least for 8 years if they played through HS and then College. But at any rate, I guess I am just looking for people to play the sport because they love playing the sport, and keep the money deals etc behind the scenes. When it gets out in the public and turns into long drawn out processes, it takes too much away from the game. There I said it!

In other football related news, NEW YORK is bidding to host the Super Bowl in 2014!! WHAT?! Are you crazy?! In the past decade if not longer, the Super Bowl as been in warmer climate, to create an equal playing dynamic and to also keep money in the seats. Let's face it, gone are the days that Sports fans will brave the freezing weather to sit through a 2 hour game, unless it is their home team. I know that unless the Steelers are playing, you will not catch me braving February 38 degree weather for the Super Bowl. You got to be out your damn mind!! So does this mean that this a change in the direction of the SuperBowl? And what does that mean for fans like myself who use the SuperBowl as just a way to enjoy the sport that they love? I guess I will enjoy Dallas next year more than I think...

Baseball:
This weekend begins the fabulous city rivalries.. Ever heard of the Subway Series? Well that kicks off this weekend, a great weekend battle between the NY Mets and the NY Yankees. Fans travel between the two stadiums for this coveted and fun series. Last year the Yanks took it winning 5 of 6 and Sweeping at Mets Citi Field. Let's see what fun will arise this season?

Other city rivalries this weekend:
Bay Bridge Series, but known to Bay Area vets as the "Battle of the Bay" begins this weekend with the SF Giants and the Oakland A's in Oakland. LET's GO A's!!! A's lead the regular series "Battles" 39-35! That's how we do it! I have spent many weekends traveling to these games, rounding up my favorite A's friends and my not so favorite Giants fans (jk, love you all). It will be sad to miss this series, but maybe I can catch the later one in July when we travel accross the Bay to SF Giants Stadium otherwise known as "Phonebook Park". We'll see!

OH LORD: Hot off the wire...
BRETT FARVE RETIRE ALREADY!!! This just in "Brett Favre says he still isn't sure what he's doing next season, but he may have given some indication after visiting with the Southern Miss baseball team. The Minnesota Vikings quarterback told the Golden Eagles on Thursday morning that if they can make it back to the College World Series for the second straight year, he will return for one more season in the NFL." - ESPN AP
GET OUT OF THE GAME OLD MAN!!! GEEZ.. No for realy, I like Favre, but it's time for the ole dog to come up with new tricks. He is a grandfather now for crying out loud, coach or do something else, now is the time to let go and enjoy your life.. Sheesh!

NBA:
The other night I blogged about a Ref's absurd actions. The name of the Ref is Joe DeRosa and he has been suspended without pay for throwing a basketball at a fan.. Here is the link from ESPN's article covering the story and look for the video after
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2010/news/story?id=5205954

And the video.. The worst part is this fool tried to get the fan kicked out! What a jerk!

In more news from the NBA:

With Game 2 in the bag...

Hey ya'll its your fav, SportsGal89 In the Building.. what up?!
So Game 2 in the bag for my LA LAKERS and I'm loving it, but was it easy? HECK NAH...
At the end of Game 1 Suns Coach Alvin Gentry gave the Lakers' credit for their great playing ability in Game 1. Emphasized that the Suns going into Game 2 needed to limit the time and the points that the Lakers get into the paint. Fear going into Game 2 by commentators was the the Suns were giving too much respect to the Lakers and not remembering to play the game. Well tonight I don't think that the Suns forgot how to play the game, in fact I think that the Lakers did. Too many long passes between Suns players down the court. Fisher had some good D on Nash but played him too short sometimes that it seemed like he was struggling to keep up. And GRANT HILL, showing everyone why he is such a strong player even now, those little fst break pullups and sweet twos helped close the gap that the Lakers had on their lead throughout the first half.
At the Half Lakers led 65-56. I was hoping that Jackson would speak some words of wisdom that would have the Lakers catching fire, but it seemd like Alvin Gentry's half time pep talk really sparked something in the dormant Suns. Gentry told his players, that they needed to play their best, and play better than they were. In the end whatever he said worked, Suns came back firing, cutting the lead in the third quarter with the help of Lakers turnovers. By the 4th however, Lakers found their rythm, with the inclusion of Farmar off the bench the Lakers were able to take the lead and win the game 124-112. Powerhouse Gasol really stepped up inside the paint and Odom on the rebounds was a sight to see.
But like I said the game was close, shutting down Hill with those little pull-ups has got to be a priority, closing up the gap on Dudley being able to pull back and knock those threes is also something that the Lakers need to be mindful of during Game 3. Richardson is a force not to be messed with either. Ultimately, I like the Suns, I think they have what it takes to great... JUST NOT AGAINST MY LAKERS ;)
And for the record, even if we need to step that game up a little bit more and be a little bit more consistent througout the game a WIN is a WIN! I'll take it!! :)

Now for the last bullet in my little blazing gun: Amare Stoudemire's comment about "luck" being the reason for Odom's big game during GM 1.. Are you still thinking it's luck.. Odom finished GM 2 17pt, 11 rebounds and 4 Assists... HEY AMARE, HOW'D YOU LIKE THEM APPLES ;)

Player stats at the close:
Suns:
Hill 23 pts, 4 reb, 3 ast
Stoudemire 18 pts, 6 reb, 1 ast
Lopez 7 pts, 6 reb, 0 ast
Nash 11 pts, 3 reb, 15 ast
Richardson 27 pts, 3 reb, 1 ast
Dudley (Got to stop him on those 3s!) 15pts, 5 reb, 4 ast

Lakers:
Artest 18pts, 5 reb,3 ast *** It must be mentioned when word came to me about then Houston Rocket Artest being traded to the Lakers in place of my beloved Trevor Ariza I was pissed. My dad tried to explain to me what an asset Artest could really be when we needed him, and that his experience would be useful where Ariza's inconsistency lacked. I get it now Dad, thanks! :)

Gasol 29pts, 9 reb, 5 ast *** has really become the powerhouse that we have needed since we lost/got rid of Shaq. It is nice to see him dominate inside the paint and watching him take on the wingman to Kobe is brilliant. When he catches on, he is on..

Bynum 13pts, 7 reb, 0 ast *** YO, my birthday is August 9, I call it now, the wishlist is for a Bynum Jersey. Bynum is my honorable mention for this game. Dude is injured, not starting, coming off the bench with a knee that he says gets worse each day. And look at the numbers, he still is a force to be reckoned with on the court. And like I said don't deny our Swag, broken pinkie, drained knee, or in Bynum's case just plain damaged, the Lakers play hard and fight hard for their rings! LOVE IT!!!

Bryant 21pts, 5reb, 13 ast *** I mean it's Kobe!!! What else can I say

Fisher 7pts, 0 reb, 5 ast ** I have to say I like to see him fight. Keeping up with Nash is tough and he held him to the best that he could.

L. Odom ( the L stands for "LUCK") 17 pts, 11reb 4 ast

Honorable Mentions:
Farmar stepped in, in the last quarter and did his best to keep the momentum going knocking down a few points at the end. Greatness at its best

This next one goes out to Barbosa who took a camera to the head and had to get some stitches eek... Saw that blood and said oh dang!

Well, that's it for now... SportsGal89 out, see you at the end of GM3 in Pheonix

5.19.2010

It's that time of the year...

Hey Ya'll SportsGal89 In the Building!
If you follow my FB feed, you would have caught the news about my post on the NFL Pro Hall of Famers this year...
So let me give ya'll a brief about the Hall of Fame and the background on this years Hall of Fame Class who will be rocking those sweet Golden Jackets.
So first the Pro Football Hall of Fame opened up in September of 1963 in Canton, Ohio. For the record, there is nothing really in Canton worth seeing but the Hall of Fame. I should know, begin an Ohio girl and traveling with my dad one of our many trips was to the Football Hall of Fame. I think we went maybe once a year, I have to say it never gets old, especially seeing all the info about the newest classes. It has been a while since I have crossed the doors of the great building, maybe I should take a road trip?
Anyways, the Pro Football Hall of Fame is the place where we get to honor the greats who changed the way we view the Gridiron! In order to be nominated a player must be retired for at least 5 years and as a coach the same. Interesting huh? Votes get calculated by a select few and it all culminates with a big ceremony, lots of tears if you are Michael Irvin, who cried and apologized for the tribulations he put his family, his teammates and his fans through when he was inducted in 2007. Finally at the end of a week long celebration in Canton, we are graced with the Hall of Fame game a preseason bonanza that is selected around the same time as the Hall of Fame Class.
A little back history on why Canton, well if you didn't know Canton was the founding home of the American Professional Football Association and the home of the Canton Bulldogs(no longer in existence, but pretty good from what I have read). Anyways the primary reason, the city of Canton was able to successfully lobby for a bid and won! And I don't think that it was such a bad idea, like I said if you get a chance to go, definitely check it out! It is worth seeing.
Now on to this year's Class!!!
1) Rickey Jackson:
Linebacker 6-2, 243 (Pittsburgh)
1981-1993 New Orleans Saints, 1994-95 San Francisco 49ers
Honorable Mentions: Yo this dude is from Pittsburgh!! You got to love it..
"Rickey who led the Panthers in tackles during his senior year, a season in which Pitt had the highest rated defense in the country. He led the way with 137 tackles and also had 12 sacks and capped the year with 14 tackles in a 37-9 victory in the Gator Bowl. He then played in the Senior Bowl and earned Defensive MVP honors in the East-West Shrine Game"- Pro Hall of Fame website
Saints fans will recognize his shear talent and ability to turn a 1-15 team around, after his rookie year. Sound familiar... WHO DAT?!

2)Russ Grimm:
Guard 6-3, 273 (Pittsburgh)
1981-1991 Washington Redskins
Anyone else seeing a trend, Pitt seems to have dominated the '81 Draft! Gotta LOVE IT!!
Honorable Mentions:
"Grimm won All-Rookie honors in 1981 and earned the reputation as the best offensive lineman on the team. Soon thereafter, a rather unusual occurrence happened when “stardom” hit a group of offensive linemen. The solid play of the Redskins’ front line, that included the return of May as a starter, earned the nickname “The Hogs” for their work 'in the trenches.' Fans embraced the group of humble linemen as the symbol of the Redskins dominant offensive attack."- Pro Hall of Fame website

Maybe the induction of a Redskins legend might bring some luck to the slackin 'Skins. Wait no, the only thing that will do this team well is getting rid of that horrible guy in the front office. That's right Snyder I'm talking about you..

3) It pains me to say this next one, not because I don't think he deserves the honor on the field, but off the field this guy is a class-A jerk. He definitely needs to take a lesson or two from Oprah's celebrity get down on tipping waiters.. I'll give you the inside scoop. Jerry Rice has been known to frequent a little restaurant I used to work for in the Bay Area called Chili's (ha ha ha) anyways, on occasion celebrity stricken managers would cover his bill, which meant the dude tipped nada or next to nada! What the heck, just cause your bill is covered doesn't mean that you don't tip, we got lives too fool!
Now back to the blog...

Jerry Rice:
Wide Receiver 6-2, 200 (Mississippi Valley State)
1985-2000 San Francisco 49ers, 2001-04 Oakland Raiders, 2004 Seattle Seahawks

Honorable Mentions: Obviously you can't miss this guy's Swag on the field, watching the dynamic duo between him and Joe Montana that led the San Francisco 49ers to greatness and following that up with Montana's successor Steve Young. Watching the Niners during this time was simply amazing. I must have been 5 watching some of these games, it was a great time to be a football fan, for sure. You can't think of the Niners without a Jerry Rice. He did a great job for the city, for the team and for the fans even if he can't tip! His record speaks for itself:
" 20 NFL seasons under his belt, 13 Pro Bowls, 11 All-Pro selections, three Super Bowl rings and virtually every major receiving record, and finally his election into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2010, Jerry Rice certainly proved his worth." Pro Football Hall of Fame website

4) Floyd Little
Running Back 6-0, 196 (Syracuse)
1967-1975 Denver Broncos

Little known fact about your fav SportsGal, I used to be a HUGE Broncos fan before I started bleeding that Black and Gold. When I was 3 we used to live in Denver. I was a HUGE Elway fan, like HUGE! I got the chance to sit next to him and his family at a restaurant in the Bay, practically knocked the knee off of my friend when I realized it was him. Sent a text to my dad, yo that was a great day!! Anyways, I still have a soft spot for the Broncos, my dad used to, probably still does, call them the Denver Doncos , smh!! Anyways this is great that Mr. Little is getting to wear that sweet Jacket.

Honorable Mentions:
Time at the S! Syracuse that is:
"He broke the school’s career rushing record while hitting the 100-yard mark 13 times. He also demonstrated a knack for finding the end zone as he scored in 22 of his 30 college games. He scored 19 touchdowns in 1965 to lead the nation in that category. A finalist for the Heisman Trophy, Little received more votes for college’s most coveted trophy than any other sophomore or junior that year."

A little bit about Little after he made it to Denver:
" Little was actually used more as a return man than a runner during his rookie season. Regardless of where he played on the field his flashy style that so excited the fans was apparent from the start. He led the AFL in punt returns and even scored a touchdown on an electrifying 72-yard return against the New York Jets.

Little evolved into the face of the franchise and almost single-handedly put Denver on the pro football map. Despite a lack of talent around him, he managed to become among the finest runners in the game during his nine-season career that spanned through 1975. As evidence, there wasn’t a single player in the game who put up more all-purpose yards from 1967 to 1975 than the Broncos’ prized multi-faceted star."
Pro Football Hall of Fame Website

5) John Randle
Defensive Tackle 6-1, 278 (Trinity Valley Community CollegeTexas A&I)
1990-2000 Minnesota Vikings, 2001-03 Seattle Seahawks

Honorable Mention: Randle is only 1 of 14 Hall of Famers inducted without being drafted into the NFL.. LOVE IT!

6)I have to say even though I CAN'T STAND the CowGIRLS, there is one player that I can't hate on.

EMMITT SMITH!!!
Running Back 6-0, 207 (Florida)
1990-2002 Dallas Cowboys, 2003-04 Arizona Cardinals

I think it goes without saying that if you know the Cowboys, than you know Smith. And you know the era in which he brought a little class to the boys from TEXAS ;) Emmitt was definitely in a class of his own, school my Steelers in their 1996 meet up when Coach Cowher first arrived in the Steel City as the head guy of the greatest team in the league. :) LOVE IT!! Anyways, watching Emmitt Smith play was something to enjoy, and it is nice to see this great athlete and role model finally getting that Golden Jacket that he most definitely deserves....

Want to know more check out his stats
http://www.profootballhof.com/hof/member.aspx?PlayerId=291

AND NOW THE MOMENT I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR...
COMING IN AT NUMBER 7 In this Inductee Class:
The Great, "Coach Dad," Dick LeBeau!!!!! (ahhh ahhh )
7) Dick LeBeau
Cornerback 6-1, 185 (Ohio State)
1959-1972 Detroit Lions

Dick LeBeau is a Legend, both for his playing ability and for his Coaching. He is being inducted into the Hall of Fame on his playing ability. But there is no doubt that he deserves it just as much for his great defensive coordinating that he does with my boys the Pittsburgh Steelers!! Yee!
Anyways, there are many reasons I love this man! The Obvious he is of the Black and Gold breed, but because we share a little Ohio bond as well. LeBeau played for my favorite College Athletic Department the Ohio State Buckeyes!!! He helped the Buckeyes take down OSU rival Michigan in 1957 with a score of 31-14! LOVE IT!!
He spent 14 years playing the game with the Detroit Lions and he is in his 36th Season coaching! And he has spent the longest time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, making their defense something to be revered. Creator of what is known as the "zone blitz," LeBeau is describes as a defensive football genius. Hey I can't hate on that Swag, look at my boy Troy Polamalu #43! Not to mention James Harrison and all the others on this side of the ball. Many of the great defensive players have been schooled by "Coach Dad!"
It is with great pleasure and honor that I am so excited to see him inducted into the Class of 2010 NFL Football Hall of Fame!
And that's it, SportsGal89 out! Hit me back for the Lakers vs. Suns Gm 2 Tonight!!

And the world around Sports today...

Eh Yo!!! It's SportsGal89 In the Building ya'll..

This might be the last blog I post before I hit the sack, but I wanted to round out the night with some sports updates:
Sharks LOSE, again!! Ugh, Blackhawks take another win in the Western Conference NHL Series. BOO!!! Each year I see the Sharks get closer and closer to greatness, I can only imagine how live it is in the Bay, mainliy San JosIe, and Santa Clara Ave> So keep hope alive Sharks, we are pulling for ya..

2010 World Cup!!! This had to come out sooner or later.. OF COURSE your fav SportsGal WILL be covering the stats on the World Cup. Waiting on News to see if I can cover it live: that's right, your fav SportsGal has a chance to be in South Africa this summer enjoying the games and a little vacation. How you might ask, well if you didn't know Greatness runs in my blood ;) Nah, my dad played in the Cup the only time Haiti qualified for the big games... yes I am Haitian, Sak Pase!!
Anyways FIFA does well to take care of their players over the years and we have game tickets, but no info on our flight or hotel yet, which would be a bummer because I have been talking about this for a year now! So keep your fave SportsGal in your hearts and mind, send some love out into the cosmos because my good fortune benefits you as well: live pictures, live feeds, live blogging- GET IT!!
Anyways I wanted to leave you with a picture of my dad in his big game and the song of the Cup this 2010 season...

K'Naan Wavin' Flag:

I'll be back later in the week, with my pick for the futbol championship!

STILLAS.. What's up with our QB?!

Whatup! SportsGal89 In the Building:
So I warned you about the disclaimer, that I might be biased towards a few teams and sports, but I will do my best to hit them all... Needless to say the big news around the NFL was the fact that Big Ben has missed another practice.
Well let's see until he gets cleared from the OTA, he cannot be anywhere near an NFL institution and expect to get some time in.
WHY BEN?!! Why put the Steelers through this nonsense!! I mean don't get me wrong, I LOVE having Leftwich back! I think he is just the backup we need, but BACKUP! Ben, You were our Starter and now you f'ed the game all up :(
So I just hope that this latest bullcrap or you to wake up a little bit more and be the leader that we need him to be..
Some article I read said that he has tarnished his legacy, and basically wrote that Roethlisberger wouldn't be able to get it back.. I didn't know that he died, and regardless of what he does off the field it doesn't take away from his Swag on the field... All the Ben can do, is turn away from the life he is living and live a better life.
I think he can come back stronger and better than ever, but this prolonged suspension is something that might definitely change that legacy. So although I think the punishment is much deserved, I'm wondering when Ben will be able to work that arm during a practice...

NBA 2010 Draft Lottery

Hey yo it's SportsGal89 In the Building:
And if you haven't heard the Washington Wiz take the number one Draft Pick for the 2010 NBA Draft.. Really?! Uh Duh.. Closing out the season with more news about the death of their beloved Owner and the downfall of their leading star, than their playing ability it's about time that good luck runs deep for the Wiz.
And who might be the number 1 draft pick this 2010 Season? Drumroll please.. John Wall, PG out of Kentucky.. Let's see if this new addition to the Wiz actually turns their luck around going into 2011...
The worst thing that could happen is if the Wiz give up their number 1 pick, which I doubt they will do.. So good luck, more news on the Draft when that gets underway.
What I will say is looking at the mock draft it's sad to see WV's Da'Sean Butler out of the Mock Draft and not really a contender as of yet. If he hadn't been injured during his NCAA Regional Finals could we have seen him reppin for the Wiz?! Hmmm...
Ponder that...

WVU against G-Town:

Can Orlando make it from here?...

SportsGal89 In the Building:
Alright ya'll, so you know my ABSOLUTE disgust of the Celtics.. DIS-GUST!!! But I have to say that I genuinely like the Magic, and it pains me to see them playing the way they are and not having anything to show for it. Going into GM3 in Boston it would have been nice to see this series tied up with some momentum for the Magic going in. But Dang, you have to give it to the Celtics, RONDO!!! I LOVE sports?! Well duh, but the reason I love sports is for these glimpses of greatness on the court, field etc.. And tonight I have to give it to Rondo, he is a sight to see 25points, 5 rebound, 8 Assists 2 Steals.. I mean dang! Rondo 24 years old (Holla, lol) and has nice future in the NBA. Dang! I can't...
I guess I have to give it to Pierce too, YUCKFEST!!! Pierce, for those Celtic fans out there 28pts, 5 rebounds, 5 Assists and then he gets fouled out a little too late.. I think had Pierce been fouled out or say the first of the 4th then maybe, just maybe the Magic could have pulled one out.
Now onto the Magic, because really it's the D that wins games, and the Orlando Magic HAD NO D!!! Ugh, rebounds were hard to get, and even when they did, missed opportunities didn't make things any better. The other down fall, you have to take advantage of the shots when you get them. Free Throws off of fouls might as well be a free point here or there, and when you have both Howard and then Vet Vince Carter missing these crucial shots, you have a problem. But I got to give it to the boys in Blue and White they had heart! Howard closing with 30points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist; Carter with 16points, 1 rebound and 1 assist. Offenses on both teams were doing great! But the D is where the Celtics took the lead away from the Magic.
Now in my opinion do I think Orlando can pull it out.. Gm2 was a much better improvement from Gm1, but we don't have time for much improvement, we need DOMINATION!! Plus you are taking the game to Boston, eh, with the fans and the way the Celtics play at home, plus Rondo is on fire- Yo sorry to say this but I think the best in the East is going to the Celtics, YUCKFEST!!!!
I can't believe I said it.. I got to brush that nasty out of my mouth..
Check me out in a minute with the Lottery info..

Let me leave you with a Rondo highlight and show you how saucey this boy is:
(I'll have to come back, no clips up on the feeds yet)

SportsGal89 out..

In semi unrelated news....

Check out what SportsGal89 just found out, that at least for me is kind of cool...
Jeff Van Gundy went to Menlo College. For my Bay Area followers, the same Menlo College that is in Menlo Atherton.. Interesting, love the Bay, LOVE IT!!!
However, J. Van Gundy ended up transferring, but nonetheless how about the Bay?!!

This Just in... Van Gundy is an idiot (Jeff, not Stan)

SportsGal89 In the Building:

Jeff Van Gundy, says the most idiotic things as a commentator that I have ever heard! This just in Van Gundy blames fans for their actions before he blames the people in charge for theirs.. So, and now I am blanking on the Ref right now, but before the half, the ref went to put the ball down and a fan happened to walk by and of course was mouthing off, being that the Magic have been getting some whack calls- AND IN NO WAY AM I SAYING I AGREE WITH THE FAN, but the Ref throws the ball at the fan, the fan throws it back and the chump ref is trying to get the fan kicked out. So Van Gundy (Jeff) says he doesn't agree with what the ref did, but fans need to have a little bit more reserve when dealing with sports professionals... HMMM- To you Jeff, they are called PROFESSIONALS for a reason! Yes, as a fan we need to appreciate the sport a little bit more and not let our own actions ruin the game and what we love about the game, but just as much as an athlete gets fired up, so do the fans if not more. And in no way does talking a little smack to the ref deserve a ball getting thrown at you. I think it is the Ref's responsibility to hold their own. This sloppy mess of of kicking people out of games and getting into fights as a Ref or an Umpire or any person who is officiating a game is beyond me; just as much as I do not condone actions by athletes who fight fans or melees. And might I remind you J. Van Gundy of a time when as a coach, a game in which the Knicks' Williams and the Heat's Mourning created their own on court brawl- and what did you do? Hmm..

For the record I get that experience is a good teacher, but tensions run high. And regardless that fan wasn't the one who had the basketball in his hand- taunting or not..
I'm SportsGal89 and I'm out...
For the Moment :p

Just in case you are wondering...

Hey ya'll Sportsgal89 In the Building..
So this came out of a comment a friend of mine put on my FB. Which made me want to clarify my name.. I am not trying to take from ESPN's "Sports Guy" Bill Simmons.. I am a girl who LOVES (likes is an understatement) Sports and my birthday happens to be August 9th.. And while I'm not sure where this blog will take me, I wanted that record to be stated before this thing catches on fire!!! LOVE IT!!!

In case you missed the Swag last night...

SportsGal89 wanted to hook you up with the instant replay of my favorite highlights, in case you missed them..

The first one is the leap I was telling ya'll about from Mr. Vertical himself Shannon Brown...

The second is a sweet little number from Pau Gasol

In other news...

Hey ya'll SportsGal89 In the Building!! So just for the record realize that I will not post everyday. Feel special with all of the posts that I have been doing in just one day, because sadly when I get back in school things will be a little crazy.

Anyways, in other news, now that I am seeing a little more clearly and riding high on that Lakers win, LOVE IT!!! I have taken up the SportsCenter review. I understand that much of the sports world is about speculation etc, but can we focus on the here and now before we talk about the then? I am talking in regards to this nonsense about Phil Jackson going somewhere else after this season. THE SEASON AIN'T EVEN OVER!! HELLO!!! But if he does leave, I will say thanks for the memories. Depending on where Jackson goes, you can say he left one of the greatest legacies with two of the best dynasties in the league.

Now there are other areas of interest besides basketball. Let's move into golf. Tiger pulling out of the last tourney and already trying to be the first to win 3 big at St. Andrews British Cup. What happened to that neck injury? Nah, I'm just kidding, it will be good to see him back in action and kicking butt the way I'm used to. I'm going to comment on his sexual indiscretions, just to get it out: I think whatever faults that Tiger has as a human being does not, I repeat DOES NOT take away how great an athlete he is.

On the other side of that DON'T BE STUPID: this nonsense with NFL Legend LT (Lawrence Taylor) is CRAZY!!! I am absolutely disgusted with the story, and saddened that such a great athlete in the game basically lost his damn mind...

And with that said, Ben Roethlisberger, just because he is a Steeler and I happen to be a Steeler fan is not off the hook. Let me say it first, HE IS AN IDIOT!! I will talk as much stuff about my own team as I do others, and sometimes I might talk more... But for the record, if the Steelers decide to cut him, GOOD! I'm disappointed that he put the owners, the fans and the league in such a predicament, and it just shows that he doesn't care as much as we do. With that said, Ben if you happen to read this- GROW UP! Time to be a big boy!!!

Baseball:

I usually don't start talking early about baseball but there are some honorable mentions! How bout those A's!!! But seriously, the rivalry between the Red Sox and the Yankees is memorable, it is one that will go down in history as one of the greatest rivalries that ever lived in American history. With that said, YANKEES Win! In a beautiful 11-9 win against the Red Sox, (if you haven't learned I am NOT a Boston fan) but regardless, the highlights from this game were amazing. Red Sox lead and Yanks take a 9-9 tie. To win with a 2 Run homer at the end, by a guy who hasn't hit a homer this whole season! Kind of cool, oh and did I mention it was all at Yankee Stadium.

Hit me later when SportsGal89 returns with some daily sports scoop and the sport of the day news!

Lakers vs. Suns GM 1!!! Recap

Hey ya'll SportsGal89 In the Building:
I told ya I'd get back after the game! How'd you like it? Big ups to the Lakers taking GM1 with a 128-107 final score over the Suns. What you missed, Lakers domination that started in the 2nd and caught on fire during the 3rd and final quarters! Ridiculous!
Kobe finished the game with his 11th Playoff Game scoring more than 30 points. Finals stats 40pts, 5 Rebound and 5 Assists. Together with Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom, Lakers defeated the Suns. But don't sleep on the Suns, Dudley caught some heat towards the end catching a three his first shot off. Nash still did his thing on the court with a swollen eye from first round playoff series. The Suns did their best to hold off the Lakers with their D, but having the Lakers starters and bench playing the way they did, it was hard to stop them. Odom who came off the bench left the game with 19 pts , 19 rebounds and 3 assists!
Between Gasol and Bryant the dynamic duo took on 61 points between the two of them.
My clincher of the game: Shannon Brown!!! 4th quarter Brown comes off the bench and literally FLEW in the air, missed the dunk but still a sight to see. It would have been nasty watching the number 12 take that shot!!
Oh clincher number 2: There was this one play, Sweet pass from Gasol to Bryant for a Bryant layup! Happened so quick even the replay had to go twice before I caught it!
At the end of this all: Lakers played PHE-NOM-ENAL!!! However, my biggest advice for the Lakers and any team coming off of a high like that, stay awake.. Don't sleep on the Suns or any team you dominate like that. Stay strong, play smart and keep it together. Don't underestimate the other team's heart, make sure your own is stronger.
With that I say GM 1's in the bag looking for the next 3! LET'S GO LAKERS!
SportsGal89 out!

Checkin in Game 1 Lakers vs. Suns Halftime Coverage

Hey ya'll SportsGal89 here.

So GM 1 is under way, and the Lakers are going strong on both offense and defense. Held a 10-point lead after being down by 5 for the first few minutes of the half. News came in this afternoon and during the pregame of Kobe getting his knee drained before the game- rumors started about whether #24 was going to be able to play. Um, do you know who Kobe is? Broken pinkie and your boy still holds it down. I think a little draining isn't going to stop him. Will Smith today was on Oprah saying that "the true leaders of a craft work through the pain," so true- Kobe is just that a true leader- Bryant with 14points 2 Rebounds and 3 Assists at the half. A sweet little rebound by Powell for a 2 point dunk was BEA-U-TI-FUL!!!
Other heavy hitters Odom with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 1 Assist. I can't hate on the Lakers right now. Even Sasha Vujacic came out to play today first time he's played since his ankle injury and his first playoff stint. We'll see how well he does for the rest of the game if Jackson puts him again. Questionable, Bynum. With Bynum's recent worry surrounding his knee it is nice to see him. I just want him to stay somewhat healthy for the rest of this series.
Anyways the score is 62-55 Lakers, let's keep it that way! SportsGal89 out, hit me up after the game for more info.

Lebron...

Can't even do what he needs to on the court before he starts looking at the next home.. Interesting..
So Lebron James' biggest story wasn't about trying to win the Eastern Conference series against the Celtics, it wasn't even about his MVP win, it was about his upcoming free-agency and where he was headed if he left the Cavs. Can I just say, DISAPPOINTMENT!! Can we focus on THE SEASON here and now before we move on to the next one. That last game that the Cavs lost to the Celtics that cost them their chance at clinching the East and extending another Championship run was a hard sell considering that for the first of many games I saw Lebron James play like a chump. Regardless of what his final numbers 27-19-10 or whatever it was. I have never seen anybody play with no heart when everything is on the line. The series was 3-2 James and the Cavs had a chance to do something big. And Mo Williams stepped up to the plate, he drove the Cavs the whole game and all I saw was Lebron giving up..
But NOW thanks to their loss, we can talk about next season, and the rumor mill. So check out the link and tell me what you think.
Can Lebron make a home in Chicago and will it be worth it?

Lakers vs. Suns GM 1!!

Waiting in anticipation for GM 1 of the 2010 Western Conference Finals where hopefully my Lakers: Kobe and the Crew will take home a win against Steve Nash, Vet Grant Hill and the Suns!

Nice that the first game is at home in the GREAT Staples Center, which I have yet to see a game in live, but know that I will get there soon.

You might ask how this Steelers football loving fan became a Lakers fan. Well it started long ago with a man I call Dad. Robert Ceran began not only my love of the Lakers, but my love of the Steelers and sports in general. But needless to say, I have loved the Lakers since I can remember. My dad likes to record things (tv shows and music) and back in the day these recordings were on VHS. Anyways, he used to record all of these old school Lakers games versus the yuckfest Celtics (BOO!) when it it was Irving "Magic" Johnson and Larry Bird. Watching Magic and Bird play these games was beautiful, I grew to love the Lakers and I have loved them ever since. I was a huge fan of Kobe when he first came to the LA squad- but I think back then like every young girl it was a fascination with this good looking guy from Philly. Lol, I remember when the big news around the NBA (at least for me) was that Kobe was taking R&B Singer Brandy to prom. OMG!! So much has changed.

Anyways back to tonights big game, I am excited to watch my boys do work on the court. Looking forward to seeing Bynum out on the court, but I also don't want him to injure himself more especially if we cna use him down the line. I am confident that Gasol, Fisher, Odom and my boy Shannon Brown will make some Magic on the court. Not that I don't like the Vet Grant Hill, but not against my Lakers. Sorry boys, but the Suns are about to set in LA and the Lakers are reaching for the stars and that next ring! LOVE IT!!

Check me later for stats on the game :D

Welcome to the first SportsGal 89 edition!!

Hello, and welcome to my blog. I am SportsGal 89 and I love ALL types of Sports.
The idea for a blog came when I realized I spend too much of my Facebook updates talking about the games I am watching or the happenings going on in the Sports World. Needless to say I love many sports and wanted to try my hand at seeing if I could combine my love of "talking" and my love of sports in a blog. So here goes nothing! I must make a disclaimer or two: I do not claim at all to be a know it all and I might not talk about sports the way most people do, running down the numbers or the stats etc. But I am willing to learn and take in as much information as ya'll want to give me.
Disclaimer: I also have to state that I am biased for certain teams : The Steelers, The Lakers and the A's. So I might talk more about these three teams than any other team or sport but bear with me..
With that sit back relax and enjoy the show!!
