Week 3 Predictions

Patriots  vs. Bills
( I want the Bills to pull this one off, but it's the PATs)

SF vs Cincy
  (Niners)

Miami vs. Cleveland
(If Miami can get their offense together than I say Dolphins)

Broncos vs. Titans
(Too close to call but I am going to go with Elway's boys)

Lions vs Vikings
(Lions, I would hate to see their momentum taken out early)

Texans vs Saints
(Most likely the game will go to the Texans but I am rooting for the Saints)

Giants vs Eagles
(I just want this to be a GOOD game, but I am going for the Eagles. I really like a Vick  focused offense)

Jags vs Panthers
( Cam needs to have more than just 400 passing yards, his offense needs to step up and  protect him more. Becuase let's face it a QB with no wins means nothing.. But I am going  for the Panthers.)

Jets vs Oakland
(This game goes to the Jets, they have the  experience of a well oiled machine. The Raiders are just hitting their stride. )

Ravens vs Rams
 (Bradford and the RAMS! )

Chiefs vs Chargers
 (Chargers)

Packers vs Bears
(Great game! seeking some retribution so let's go BEARS)

Cards vs Seahawks
 (Cardinals)

Falcons vs Tampa
(Falcons)

Pit vs Indy
 (DUH STILLAS BABY)

Monday Night:
Redskins vs Dallas
(With Romo, Austin and Bryant questionable let's go Redskins, plus they have an edge and an intensity to win)

Week 2 Recap

Hey y'all it's your favorite sports blogger, SportsGal89 in the building.. we conclude another MNF which means I get to have my say. Lol..
If you check out my previous post you can see my predictions and how my picks stood up to the reality of week 2. Abbreviated version, I was 8-16 which means I am 50/50.

There are a few games I am going to talk about specifically, the rest are games I either don't care about, or well don't care about. Lol.

So let's get started:
  Detroit and Kansas City-
I picked KC, well because let's be honest its Detroit, no matter that they are coming off of a win last week, or a pretty good 4-0 Preseason record, once we move into the regular season are the Lions really a team to worry about? Well, they sure schooled me and the Chiefs. Detroit Lions won 48-3! 48 to 3 against the Chiefs! there are some teams that are waking from the dead and the Lions currently are one of them. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the season continues, but let's give them some props where props are due, a team that has gone 0-16 one season, allowed them to have the number 1 draft pick this season and it must have done them some good because Detroit might actually be a contender.

Bills vs Raiders-
I picked the Raiders to win, after their performance last week against Denver I figured they have begun to find their rhythm. I did account for the fact that if they got rule whipped again, and more if hey were their own worst enemy that they would probably give up so many yards in penalties that Bills would win by default. But it wasn't like the Bills had a shutout game (this is all going on only sensory information as I did not watch the game). The final score was 38-35, the Raiders lost by 3. But what puts this game as one to mention, is like the Lions, the Bills have been virtually nonexistent in sports, I mean bringing T.O to the Bills, giving him a key to the city and he hadn't even played a game, "guaranteeing" a championship all signs pointing to a team going down the *** you know what***. But like the Lions the Bills are going 2-0 into the season, and looking like a force to be reckoned with. Whatever the changes, it's a good look for the teams and adds another contender to what was a shrinking sport in terms of power.

The Pack vs. Panthers-
Let's just sit on this one a little bit. Because I have to pull up my EXACT wording from my predictions post.. On Saturday when I wrote my predictions I had said  " this one is going to be another good game, Panthers primarily will have their Offensive highlights with Newton, but overall the Pack win"  how right was I?! I didn't watch this game either but the overall assessment, the game was going to be a good one to watch, the Panthers will look good offensively and mainly because of Pretty Boy Cam (got to love that smile) He had another good game going for over 400 passing yards in his second start in the regular season, but the seasoned Pack with a hot defense and a great Aaron Rodgers, coming off of a SuperBowl win and a hot game against NoLa were just too good. The final score GB 30- Carolina 23. Losing by a touchdown doesn't seem that bad, depending on where the points are coming from. Is it just a missed opportunity by the offense or was the defense whipped with penalties?
Cam's second game passing for 400+ has gotten many people to sing his praises-- part of me is like duh, but his ability to adjust to the pace of the pros is amazing and to set records such as these, I mean the Panthers lucked out BIG TIME. But when people say things like "Cam is so official" how official is he really when his team can't win a game? Is his talent being wasted when 400+ passing yards really don't mean a dang thing without a W. He might look amazing out on the field, but ultimately it falls on deaf ears if his team can't make it worth it on both sides of the ball. So what happens next? I am not at all saying that Cam is not deserving of the praise and remember it's only the 2nd game, but pretty soon we will be in week 10 and then what? I like Cam, I want to see his team's success compliment his strengths, so I'm just asking the Panthers to STEP UP!

STILLAS vs Hawks
After a BUTT WHOPPIN by the Ravens, we NEEDED a win this week. And of course I am always going to go for my team even when I feel like it might not work out in our favor (SuperBowl last year ring any bells). I figured that the boys would either have a close game, or a strong lead. I wasn't expecting that the Boys would leave the Hawks with nothing, no points, nada. But I am NOT complaining. I also didn't get to watch this game due to lack of NFL Ticket- which as an aside, I may get Direct TV simply because of this feature. I mean really, I LOVE sports too much, this is a MUST. But anyway we won the score 24-0, doing that in our Home Opener is not a bad look either. Next week we take on Indy and with Peyton out, we'll see how well the team picks up, although they didn't lose by much against the Texans this week.

Honorable Mentions:
ish together a little- a LOT better than the Eagles did. Some say that Vick's leaving the game early (concussion) had something to do with the Eagles loss, it's easy to say that one player changes the dynamic of  a game, but this is the Eagles (Andy Reid's team)  they have gotten a little life back into their system, relying on Vick, who we know gets knocked around and is done, is not always the best safety net. Do I think Vick will be back and in great form yes! He has been transforming as a great QB, staying in the pocket just a great site to see.

- Rams, I had picked the Rams to win if Bradford was good to play. Bradford is a great QB, I liked watching him play while he was at Sooner Country. I appreciate his pace, his patience and his fluidity. However, the Rams were just ALL over the place today and it was on Bradford's shoulders. Tonight's game (MNF) was really a sloppy play from the QBs. Manning had a few balls get away from him, making it look sloppy and not as if he was one the starting QB of the Giants, and two a SuperBowl winning QB. Whatever he allowed to take his head out of the game, he needs to figure it out and get back in it.
As for Bradford, his redzone offense was shit! Not really connecting to any receiver in the redzone he just had some sloppy plays and overall it allowed the Giants and a vet in Manning to triumph. I'd like to see Bradford do a little better in the Red next week..

And with that-- That's all she wrote folks!

Week 2- the predictions

Hey Y'all it's SportsGal89, in the bulding! I normally give you my predictions before the weeks start, but I failed to do that this last week. So here it goes for this week, I am getting them up early so I can let my picks marinate and I will be back at the end of the week to discuss how well my choices did or didn't do..

*** This post was edited on 9.19.2011 following the MNF with final updates and scores.. Places where there are ** are games of interest to the blogger***
Out of 16 games I got 8 right so I was 50/50 in wins and losses based on my picks..

TB 24- Minn 20
Chicago at New Orleans (ooo, this is going to be a GREAT game.. but I'm going to go with DA Bears)

Baltimore at Tennessee (Do you even have to ask- Titans.. Ravens can choke on one, see y'all November 6)

Titans 26- Ravens 13
Cleveland at Indianapolis (This one is a toss up, I'd like to say Indy comes back from this and I mean they're playing the Browns, it's not the Texans who are turning into a phenomenal team, but eh-- I'm going with Indy on this one)

Cleveland 27-Indy 19
Jacksonville at NY Jets (J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS.. I just love this teams SWAG, yes I said it)

Arizona at Washington ('Skins have a new Coach who has to be given credit, and that boy Banks um! not to mention Grossman)

Dallas 27- Niners 24
San Diego at New England (Won't root for the Pats so let's go San Diego)

Pats 35-SD 21

Houston at Miami ( I think this is a good matchup, but I'm going with the Texans)
Texans 23- Miami 13
Cincinnati at Denver (ooo, if Tebow starts, Denver. If he doesn't, Denver. But hmm.. maybe Cincy? nah, I am going with Denver for the win)
Denver 24- Cincy 22
Philadelphia at Atlanta (Vick's a beast, nuff said )
ATL 35, Philly 31
MON, SEP 19
St. Louis at NY Giants (With Bradford "injured" I will say the Giants. But I want to see the Rams take this one)
Giants 28- Rams 16

Check out my recap blog.. up next

Week 1- what does it predict for the rest of the season?

Hey Y'all SportsGal89 in the building! How you doin? Well what a WEEK 1 in the NFL, huh?! If any of you watched the highlights Week 1 was a series of some unpredictable games and some amazing records being broken.
Let's start with the teams that didn't fair well at all despite their strong record and history- I'll start with my Steelers. A disappointing ASS WHOOPIN we faced by the Ravens. I won't go into much detail since I spent a whole blog talking about just that game after it ended. But let's just say the Steelers played like they were back in middle school, just learning the ropes.. Lol.. Oh gosh, I NEVER want to see weak play like that again...

Then let's move on to Indy, losing Peyton before the season even got underway sent a shock through the sports world. What would happen to Indy and what would it mean for the rest of the NFL. Well with Indy picking up Cary Collins out of retirement, I thought seasoned veteran with a great organization- Indy shouldn't be that far out of the contending teams. WRONG! Indy lost badly to the Texans and they were my top pick. It is devastating thinking about this, considering that Peyton was the closest to Brett Favre's  most games played/started.. and  now that streak comes to an end.

But enough about the downers let's talk about the RECORDS! Records that were broken and it was a beautiful sight to see..
Let's start wit Cam Newton- his debut in the regular season. The Panthers lost but unlike many rookies of late who come off of great years and careers in college, Newton made a name for himself in his first game. He threw for over 400 yards and had sports commentators and fans going crazy. Unexpected maybe, but let's remember this is Cam Newton. While there is always generally a little gap between College and the pros, there are some who are able to manage the shift with ease- it seems that Newton is one of those greats. Will he continue to have phenomenal games? There will be ups and downs, but let's be real. I mean he made it amazing for the regular season game 1. So congrats to Cam Cam for that one, did I mention he has a beautiful smile? Watching football is not half bad when there is a beautiful smile involved- why do you think I like the 86 so much?! Hey Hines!

Next record, I can't really stand Tom Brady or the Patriots. But I will give ANY player--- even one's I despise props for the game that Brady and the Pats played- I just wish that they weren't so dang UGH about it. Geez, his smug face during press conferences and does Belichick EVER smile! I mean EVER! He looks like a broke down Rocky always wearing those damn cut-off sweatshirts.. Now I'm done..So as I was saying the Patriots had ONE HELL of a game against the Miami Dolphins, but would we expect anything different from NFL Vets? I mean it's not *cough* 18-1 *cough*; I had to do it.. But they had a great game, records broken where do we begin. I guess I will start with Brady's pass to Welker -- 99 Yard TD pass that was beautifully executed and something this football fan would love to see on a rerun anytime.

How about the fact that Brady went 517 passing yards in one game.. 517! Congrats, even though you are a "Ken Doll"

Monday Night Football wouldn't have been anything extraordinary had it not been for the double header and the beautiful game the Raiders played against the Broncos. I have said it before and I will say it again, the Raiders in my opinion like the Redskins will be better teams than they are now when their Owners move out of the way and let the people they hired do the job. I mean, I can't believe I am going to give him props, buy Jerry Jones for as much as he is ALWAYS the front man on TV and the one who speaks on behalf of the team blah, blah, blah. At least he doesn't do anything to intervene with the progress of the team per say. Outwardly it seems that he allows the coaches to do their jobs to an extent but steps in when necessary. Okay, maybe he isn't a great example but you get where I am going. Al Davis and Snyder are too hands on! They negatively impact the progress of their teams because they ultimately usurp the power that they give Head Coaches and Managers. But the Raiders on Monday night- well let's be real, later into the game looked as if they were a great organization. The pieces seemed to fit (I'll get into the penalties in a minute)  I LOVE Jason Campbell, I was sad to see him get the ish he got before he left DC. I was disappointed that he was packed up to Oakland because my opinion and it still is, is that the Raiders is a QB's wasteland. You don't survive after being a QB in Oakland. But Monday night Campbell and the boys in silver and black did a fair job of exciting me- again penalties aside. I was excited to see them play, excited to see the execution and excited to see a little magic come back to a city and a franchise that I think has been missing it for so long. And the ultimate moment of glory- Raiders Kicker Janikowski kicks a beautiful 63-yard FG-- an ultimate record for the ages!!

But even in these shining moments, the Raiders Broncos game also held it's own record- 25 penalties! TWENTY-FIVE. I don't think I have seen that many flags thrown in one game. The tweets about the flags were hilarious- comments from " I won't be surprised if the Refs start pulling out a yellow flag rope like clowns do", to "I wonder if the Refs have as many tissues in their pockets as they do flags". I myself even wondered if Willie Wonka had it wrong and instead of the everlasting gobstopper he should have created an everlasting flag thrower (not funny, I try). But anyways, at the end of the day, I think atheletes need to remember that the flags aren't just brutal for them in terms of yards given and yards lost, but it's brutal for the fans to be up until practically  2 or 3 am because they decide they don't know the difference between offsides, false starts, late hits, horse collars and the like.

But what I can say is this, Week 1 was amazing! I'm ready for Week 2!
That's all she wrote folks!

First Game Jitters?

... Hey y'all SportsGal89 In the Building.. How are you living? It has been one crazy summer huh?! I have been all up and down like most of you, waiting to see if there would be a Football season. Let alone, now, a basketball season. But it is good to say that today was the first Sunday of the regular season stretch, here we have approximately 52 weeks of Gridiron magic and as a fan I am ecstatic!
So first I want to say my bad, I usually each week post my picks before the start of the game! I promise starting on Thursday you will see my picks with an edit at the end adding how my picks faired .
But I think it is safe to say that the only pick I cared about today was the STEELERS!. It wasn't just that this was the first game of the season, but it was the first game of the season post our Superbowl loss, it was the first game of the season against our division rivals- the ravens! Whomp Whomp! this was a big deal.
So you might wonder how my boys did. Post game Mike Tomlin loosely quoted as saying " We got handled!"  Handled- isn't really the way I would put it, I think the most accurate way to describe our loss is that we got pimped! Straight pimped, I mean the Ravens whole squad including coaches, water boys etc, threw on the baby powder on both hands and laid 5 fingers on each cheek!
First TD play happened in 92 seconds of the first quarter, by the Ravens. It wasn't that I was worried that early in the game, but it was  a series of subsequent errors that led to one messed up game. So let me give you the rundown- the final score 35-7 Ravens. Can you believe it? We played horribly on both sides of the ball. I mean there was no saving us on either end. Rothelisberger threw 7, count them 7 interceptions. Total interceptions thrown last season 5, so in game one he's thrown 7. That better be all he throws for the rest of this season.
Our D was virtually non-existent. Generally if the Offense is having a bad game, we can rely on our D enough to pull us out. But we had nothing. The few sacks we had on Flacco came late in the game, and wasn't enough to make a dent into the can of whoopass that had already been opened.
Did I mention that there was a fight?! Oh yeah, it is known that the battles between the Ravens and the Steelers are always going to be somewhat bloody. I mean it's a huge rivalry against two of the best Ds in the league, so of course tempers are going to flair up, but this was unheard of. I mean I don't think I've seen a fight like this with my boys ever. A ref got trampled, Polamalu even got pulled around and threw in some swings, it was just ugly.
So how do I feel about it. Well it is game 1, but it is game one against a division contender. It is game 1 right off of a Superbowl loss, where we have a division title to defend. It is game 1 where we played like a bunch of JV nobodies.
But don't take my word for it, check out the footage yourself  http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=310911033
Our next game is September 18th against the Seahawks. While I think we will do well, I don't want us to forget at all what today meant for us and that sour taste in our mouths.
But here is to the start of what will be an amazing season and I am glad that we have our football back!

Here is my claim- Steelers and the Stairway to 7, LEGGO
